ixMAT - Used in an engineering environment
ixMAT was integrated into a system for working time registration and for registering and tracking
material at the company GEMTEC GmbH. Jan Burschik, the CEO of GEMTEC, says: "With this solution we can
account exactly for all driving times and service times of our mechanics."
The task
GEMTEC GmbH, based near the German capital Berlin, is active in different areas - as an engineering company for safety monitoring
devices (e.g. monitoring cameras), in the field of automation, and with designing and manufacturing special elements of metal
and steel.
GEMTEC was looking for a solution which includes all these departments. As a result they wanted to
simplify all processes with respect to the time recording (personal and working hours), the accounting and the controlling.
Thus the solution should be able
- to reduce the manual handling of time registration, in particular the driving times and service times of the engineers on
a construction job
- to acquire the working times and to assign these to projects
- to track material or devices
- to avoid hardware costs or other investment.
The solution
GEMTEC contacted ixellence for discussing these requirements. ixellence then developed a solution for collecting the working
times, the driving times and the supplied and the installed material or devices simply, reliably, and user-friendly.
The mechanics on a construction job use a mobile phone with the software for data acquisition to record the details of the
working day. The camera of the mobile phone is equipped with ixMAT and captures data matrix codes printed on service notes
and devices to be installed. Furthermore the software records the time stamps of the driving and the working intervals. These
data are stored in the mobile phone until they are transmitted to the central server (e.g. via GPRS).
Depending on the point of acquisition, the stored time stamps and registered data will be transferred to the host system over
the local network, over Bluetooth, or via GPRS (radio). All time stamps and data will be assigned automatically to the projects
in the existing administrative software, e.g. for accounting or for controlling.
The main economic benefit results from the automatic and mobile time registration. Engineers do not waste their time for filling
out the time sheets, and the administration employees do not waste their time with the manual transfer into the ERP software.
The system automatically generates the invoices for the customers containing the driving times and service times with minute-accuracy
as well as any material and parts delivered to the customer. On the other hand, the actual costs of the projects are promptly
available for the controller. Possible recall actions can be arranged easily.
