What is Telematics anyway?
In short: TELEMATC contain both words, TELEcommunication and InforMATIC.
It means, the coupling of informatics and telecommunications/-science.
Today modern digital telecommunication systems offer a wide spectrum of services ranging from
"local" networks within buildings (Local Area Networks, LANs) to the worldwide infrastructure
of telecommunication networks (Wide Area Networks, WANs) like the Internet.
Telematics opens up an extensive spectrum of new possibilities, new functions and services which has an immense practical
importance for a wide range of applications.
So in connection with transportation telematics = telematics in traffic systems
(computer and communications supported traffic management systems), communication by sattelite for fleet management,
(e. g.: ships, trucks or aircrafts), facility management via internet, virtual services (fields of e-commerce) and so on.
Of course, to use modern telematic may become more and more popular.
